The week begins with an inspiring grand water trine between Mercury in Cancer, Jupiter in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces that unfolds June 19 to 20 with the sensitivity of a poet and the wisdom of a spiritual teacher. Communications shape shift into symbolic words and graceful gestures that are infused with the codes of love and unity. In addition to communications, Mercury represents how we perceive. Jupiter takes those perceptions and organizes them into a holistic philosophy. Neptune gathers it all up into a unified field of thought that encompasses all creation. Should we choose to travel the cosmic reaches of our imagination via the Mercury/Jupiter/Neptune light lines, we may come back with stories that can heal our chronic sense of separation and teach us about the expansive power of unconditional love.

The Sun reaches its most northern point at the Tropic of Cancer on June 21 and yet another new cycle begins, as the change of season will testify. The aspects described herein unfolding under the Solstice Sun set the archetypal tone for the coming three months, and the Sun leads the way at the all important 0°cardinal point that represents the rush of creation. Expressing through the sign of Cancer, the solar principle is focused on nurturing the creative spirit in an incubating safe space where it can grow comfortable with expressing. Archetypally, the Sun in Cancer has a rich and vibrant inner world and is known to create a protective outer shell that shields it from the harsh vibrations of life. However, it is destined to outgrow the need for protection so it can work with those who share its vision and in the process experience a kinship of spirit. In the progression of individual development through the signs, “Knowing where one belongs” is the gift of Cancer according to Dane Rudhyar. In order to evolve to this state, he says, we need to cultivate a strong sense of self to the extent we can become comfortable with who we are and with life. We can then begin to discover where we belong in a much larger scheme of things without fear of losing ourselves in this vast world. We thrive, he says, when we know we belong to something beyond ourselves and that leads to a feeling of kinship with others from all walks of life and a desire to become an active participant in the collective process of living.

Once in Cancer, the Sun enters into a sextile with Uranus in Taurus, exact on June 22, that infuses its sense of belonging with a willingness to take chances out in the world. This openness to unusual experiences can certainly generate sparks in our interactions with others that may require breaking free of our protective shell in order to express as the unique individual we are. Through the lens of Cancer and Taurus, the arenas of home, family, natural resources and individual self worth are highlighted.

The archetypal saga of self in relation to other comes to the forefront on June 21 when Venus in Leo opposes Mars in Aquarius. This is the “full moon” phase of the Venus/Mars cycle that began with the conjunction in chaste and service-oriented Virgo on October 5 last year. Back then, the U.S. was reeling from the effects of three massive hurricanes and we were asking, “How can we be of service in a world of overwhelming need and still take care of ourselves?” Also at that time, the Harvey Weinstein scandal launched the groundbreaking “MeToo” movement. Now with the archetypal lovers of the sky in confrontation along the Leo/Aquarius axis, we may be challenged to co-exist with a balance of freedom and closeness while concentrating our pioneering forces in service to the common good. As we integrate creative playfulness and noble innovation, we’re challenged to keep it simple, not hog the light and understand that our own brilliant uniqueness has no outlet for expression without other. Mars at this moment is moving very slowly as its June 26 retrograde station approaches, so its self-determining force is potent and best put to use in the continuing process of integrating the anima and animus within so we can evolve toward an equitable and loving future.

With the Mercury/Jupiter/Neptune grand trine still in effect, Mercury segues into an opposition to Pluto in Capricorn on June 23 that can amplify our awareness of the fundamental forces at work in the world. With the challenging opposition, it may feel like others have all the power, but that is only if we choose to relinquish our own. With heightened depth perception, we may even see how our obsessions keep us from true empowerment of taking personal responsibility for each thought, word and deed. We do have the power to control our choices, even the choice of what we focus our mind on, and that is all we need to align with the mystical power of the universe, if we so choose.

Venus segues into a square with Jupiter on June 25 that challenges our sense of values. Do the things we love give meaning to life or merely indulge our appetites for superficial beauty? Jupiter teaches the love of things keeps us in a limited state that misses out on the grand adventure of love of life. The tension of the square may create situations that force us to look at our distracting excesses and the motivations behind them. For example, being overly generous with our love and resources may be making up for an inability to experience love and the joy of living. The balance of give and take in the banquet of life begins within and seeing that without having to do or give anything at all, the simple fact that we exist means we are worthy of love.
